Reflection on our own uniqueness by Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?  You are child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Prayer:
May we all come to realize our own uniqueness and embrace the absolute brilliance of what you have created.  For we know you are God and God don't make junk!  Amen.
Hope

I break off a fragment to send to you.
Please take this grain of a grain of hope
so that mine won’t shrink.
Please share your fragment
so that yours will grow.
Only so, by division, will hope increase,
like a clump of irises, which will cease to flower
unless you distribute the clustered roots, unlikely
source –
clumsy and earth-covered –
of grace.

Seeing for a Moment
I thought I was growing wings--
it was a cocoon.

I thought, now is the time to step
into the fire-
it was deep water

Eschatology is a word I learned
as a child: the study of Last Things;

facing my mirror-no longer young,
           the news-always of death,
the dogs-rising from sle ep and clamoring
                 and howling, howling,

nevertheless
I see for a moment
that's not it; it is
the First Things.

Word after word
floats through the glass.
Toward me.

from A Door in the Hive

I have been struggling to find my place in this wide world for some times.  This little poem gives me a new direction.  It is not the 'Last Things' but it is 'First Things'.  The journey begins everyday.  Don't you think?
